pgEd Movie Project

This website is a no-frills place to develop content for a project proposed at GETed in April 2012. The purpose of the project is to use movies to educate the public about genetics and genomics.

The discussion of this project has gone in many different directions since its inception. Here are some of the goals that have been articulated:

• Review the scientific and ELSI content of films with genetic, genomic, or biomedical content. This is the principal goal associated with this website.
• Provide content that will interest people in a deeper exploration of biology or ELSI; content here will eventually link out to resources at pgEd and elsewehre.
• Facilitate contact between filmmakers and scientific experts so that popular films will have scientific content that is as accurate as possible, and so that documentaries will be made with access to experts.
• Develop a series of annual awards for films with the best content in genomics.
• Engage in public outreach in genomics by supporting screening events of popular films followed by discussion.
